Digital camera auctions regularly feature DSLRs and mirrorless cameras from major brands including Nikon (such as the D-series and Z-series), Canon (EOS DSLR and mirrorless), Sony (Alpha mirrorless and Cyber-shot), Fujifilm (X-series mirrorless and FinePix), Panasonic Lumix and Olympus. Lot descriptions list the body, lens (where included), shutter count or condition notes, and any accessories supplied.
Compact digital camera auctions
Smaller point-and-shoot compacts and bridge cameras appear regularly, from Panasonic Lumix, Sony Cyber-shot, Canon PowerShot, Nikon Coolpix and others. These are popular with hobbyists, holiday photographers and resellers.

How our camera auctions work
Place a bid online any time before the auction closes. You can bid manually in the minimum increments shown, or set a maximum bid and our system will bid on your behalf up to your limit. The highest bid when the timer ends wins. Lots auto-extend by 2 minutes if a bid lands in the closing minute.
Reading camera lot descriptions
Camera lot titles and descriptions typically state the make, model, included accessories and condition. Watch for these terms:
- Boxed: in original packaging
- Body only: camera body without lens
- With lens: lens included, lens spec stated in description
- Unboxed: without retail packaging, condition stated in description
- No battery: shipped without battery, may need to be sourced separately
- Mounts and accessories: any cases, mounting kits or cables included
Shutter counts, viewfinder condition and known faults are listed in the description where supplied by the vendor. If anything is unclear about a specific lot, contact us before bidding.
UK postal delivery
Cameras, lenses, action cameras, camcorders and most accessories are marked Postal and shipped UK-wide. Larger lots, bulk pallets or oversized lighting equipment are normally Collection only from our saleroom. The fulfilment option is shown clearly on every lot page.
Buyer's premium and VAT apply on top of the hammer price. Current rates are shown on every lot page.

Frequently asked questions
What is a camera auction?
A camera auction is an online sale where buyers bid on individual cameras, lenses, action cameras and photography accessories rather than paying a fixed retail price. At Simon Charles, our weekly camera auctions feature DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, GoPro action cameras, camcorders and accessories from major brands, with bidding typically starting at £1 per lot.
Are the cameras new or pre-owned?
We list both. Some camera lots are new in box from clearance or surplus channels, some are unboxed but unused, and many are pre-owned, ex-display or customer returns. Every lot description states the condition as supplied by the vendor, including any known issues.
How much do DSLRs and mirrorless cameras typically sell for at auction?
Hammer prices vary widely depending on age, brand, condition and what's included. Older DSLR bodies often sell for £20 to £80, mid-range bodies and mirrorless cameras typically £50 to £250, and recent flagship bodies and pro lenses can attract higher final prices. Final prices are usually well below new retail.
Are GoPro action cameras genuine and working?
GoPro lots are listed as supplied by the vendor, with the model and condition shown in the title and description. Most lots are listed as boxed, with accessories or as body-only, and any known issues (such as a missing battery) are stated. We don't make additional guarantees beyond what's in the lot description, so check the photos and description carefully before bidding.
Do cameras come with lenses, batteries and accessories?
This varies by lot. Some camera bodies are listed with a kit lens included, some are body-only, and some include extras like batteries, chargers, memory cards or bags. Every lot description states what's included where known by the vendor. If a specific accessory is essential to you, check the lot photos and description, and contact us before bidding if it's not clear.
Can I check shutter count or test a camera before bidding?
Shutter counts and condition details are included in lot descriptions where supplied by the vendor. Viewings are available so you can satisfy yourself before bidding. Viewing details and our "Ask a question" function are both on the lot page.
Can I get a camera delivered or do I have to collect?
Most cameras, lenses, action cameras and accessories are marked Postal and shipped UK-wide. A small number of bulk lots or oversized lighting kits are Collection only from our saleroom. The fulfilment option is shown clearly on every lot page.
What are your fees and charges?
All lots sold with us are subject to:
- 20% buyers premium*
- 5% internet fee*
- £2.00 lotting fee*
*All of which are plus VAT.
All lots unless otherwise specified are subject to 20% VAT on the hammer price of the item.
