FAQ
Are all items Brand New?
The products sold at Simon Charles Auctioneers come from high street & online retailers, wholesalers, distributors across the UK, in a range of different conditions from brand new to customer returned or faulty.
We don’t always have chance to test and check the items and all products are sold as seen, due to this we have viewing times available to come down and check the condition of a lot and we highly recommend you take advantage of them. (These times can be found by clicking the book viewing button on the auction catalogue or lot page. Bookings will need to be made in advance)
If it is not possible to view we also have an ask a question" feature on each item, where you can gain a better understanding of the product before bidding.
What are your postage options?
We are now offering postage options on applicable lots sold through selected online and live auctions. Lots displayed with the postage symbol are eligible to be delivered by a third-party company, in this case DPD or Royal Mail.
Prices start from £4.99 for smaller items and will increase according to size and weight. Additional costs to cover insurance will be applied for high value items.
(Additional Charges will Apply for Northern Ireland and Offshore postage)
Postage cost will be displayed on the lot page of each qualifying item. When buying multiple items, they will be combined where possible resulting in a reduced postage price.
All postage prices shown are inclusive of VAT, the postage costs are calculated when you select “Add Postage” when paying your invoice online. Postage is not added as standard. If you would prefer to collect the items, please select “Remove Postage” before making payment (Please note this is not available for POSTAL ONLY Auctions).
Postage is only available on a select number of items that are of a certain size and weight. If you win any items that cannot be posted through this service, then the postage option will become unavailable.
Postage costs are applied per invoice. As such, at the moment postage cannot be combined across multiple invoices.
Items that do not qualify for postage as per DPD and Royal Mail exclusions, for example TV's, do not have the postage symbol displayed. If your invoice includes items that are not applicable for dispatch, then the postage option will not be available and as such goods will need to be collected from the auction centre.
You can however, arrange for a courier to collect on your behalf. Any collections, that buyers wish to arrange via third party courier companies will be subject to a minimum £10 inc. VAT handling fee, this fee may increase due to volume of lots purchased. The buyer must inform Simon Charles as soon as collection by third party courier collection is arranged, goods will not be collated until this fee has been paid. All third-party courier collections must be arranged within the sale collection times or you will be subject to the late collection charges. This service will only be available where Simon Charles does not offer its own delivery option. Please note, third party courier and delivery fees will not be reimbursed should you need to return goods to Simon Charles Auctioneers.
We will do our upmost to pack your Items and have them collected by the courier within 24 hours of the payment of your invoice however this is subject to service levels. We can offer no guarantees as to when you will receive your items.
All items are sold under the terms and conditions of the auction. All items are sold as seen so we fully recommended viewing items or using the ‘Ask A Question’ function on the website to satisfy yourselves prior to bidding. We are unable to accept returns on dispatched items or offer refunds, all items are sold as seen.
Goods will only be delivered to the invoice/billing address.
All goods are dispatched in accordance with the terms and conditions set out by the courier, including prohibited items and postcode exclusions. For a detailed copy of these terms and conditions please refer to the couriers’ website.

What is the Lot Processing Fee?
We are committed to maintaining the high quality of stock and the exceptional service you’ve come to expect from Simon Charles. Every lot in our auctions requires, photographing, lotting, uploading, organising and storage, this is all done by our talented team. To continue to deliver this service to our customers, we charge a modest £1.50 + VAT lot processing fee.
Rest assured, our fees are regularly reviewed to ensure we continue to exceed industry standards and offer the best value possible.
Can I remove a bid?
Unfortunately we are unable to remove bids, due to the instant impact that any bid can have on another bidder's own bids.
It is important to understand prior to placing a bid that it forms a binding contract, with the obligation to buy the product at that price if the bid is successful, as laid out in our Terms and Conditions of Sale.
If however you have placed a maximum bid on an item in error you may be able to alter that bid by placing a new maximum bid, at a lower price. Unfortunately, however, you will only be able to set the bid for the next available increment on this lot.

How to Place a Maximum Bid
Placing a maximum bid is an easy way to ensure you remain in the running for an item you want without constantly monitoring the auction. Here’s everything you need to know about maximum bids and how to place one.
What is a Maximum Bid?
A maximum bid is the highest amount you’re willing to pay for an item in an auction. When you place a maximum bid, the system will automatically bid on your behalf in the smallest increments needed to keep you as the highest bidder, up to your maximum limit. If someone else places a higher bid, you’ll be notified, giving you the opportunity to increase your maximum bid if you wish.
Using this feature can save you time and ensure you don’t miss out on items you’re interested in, even if you’re not actively watching the auction.
How to Place a Maximum Bid
Follow these simple steps to place your maximum bid:
- Find the lot you want to bid on
Browse the auction listings to locate the item you’re interested in. - Click ‘Place Max Bid’
On the item's page, look for the option to place a maximum bid and click it. - Enter your maximum bid amount
Enter the highest price you’re willing to pay for the item. Remember, this is the maximum limit, not the starting bid. - Click ‘Place as Max Bid’
Confirm your bid by clicking the button. The system will now bid on your behalf up to the amount you’ve set.
What Happens Next?
Once your maximum bid is placed, the system will:
- Automatically increase your bid if someone else places a lower one.
- Stop bidding if the current highest bid surpasses your maximum bid.
- Notify you if you’re outbid so you can decide whether to increase your bid.
